Opened in 1862, Nevada State Prison was the primer territorial prison of its time. After the civil war Nevada had become a state and the prison grew from territorial to Nevada's primary prison. Over time, as Las Vegas began to grow into tourist metropolis we know it as today Nevada State Prison became the unwilling home of many law breakers in southern Nevada. Through the 150 years Nevada State Prison was in operation it housed many infamous prisoners and set many precedents that prison even today follow.
