Las Vegas is home to a verity of colorful characters. As the only state in the union where gambling is legal, Nevada has an interesting opportunity to be unique in most every aspect of it's history. In the prison system, Las Vegas was the cause of one of the most bizarre forms of prisoner management ever seen. From the years 1932 to 1967 the inmates of Nevada State Prison operated the Bullpen Casino. Bullpen was housed in an unused stone building formerly part of the Nevada State Prison but converted to casino for the purpose of giving the inmates an occupation. Fair play was almost guaranteed as any inmate found cheating may have cause to fear for his life, from the other prisoners.
